After completing the training through an apprenticeship program and becoming a well experienced employee, journeyman electrician jobs become available and this allows for more money and more opportunities. In order to thrive in this sort of field, an individual must be able to be responsible for them and work without any supervision whatsoever. Furthermore, they must still answer to the job foreman, contractor or building because they are of higher position and can direct orders as they please. Depending on the size of the job, some journeyman electricians may be asked to submit requests for tools or supplies that are needed to ensure that they will be at the worksite when they are needed and called for. In terms of physical work, this job almost completely relies on it so it is essential that an employee keeps in shape so that their ability to work efficiently does not come to a halt. While there are apprentices and journeyman electricians, one of them will take the place of a student and the other of a teacher. How to Become a Journeyman Electrician

Before an individual can actually obtain the title of journeyman they must go through an apprenticeship program in which they will work with journeyman, be mentored by them and learn how to perform their duties to the best of their ability while being able to limit their mistakes to as little as possible. Being able to adapt and learn at a quick pace will still retaining the information is incredibly beneficial for anyone who can do so because electrical codes are so detailed and so many that it can become quite confusing and frustrating trying to learn the ropes of the job as in how to do this and how to do that in addition to codes. However, there are some people that are truly dedicated to reaching the journeyman electrician position and they are the most likely to get there because they believe they can. Going in with a negative attitude and mindset will only bring mediocre and unsatisfying results so there really is no room for that at all especially with how competitive the position in due to the high salary and great benefits.

Getting licensed is another part of becoming a journeyman electrician but is not required for all states or job positions. As long as an individual has gone through their apprentice program, passed and holds all of the skills and abilities that the desired job position requires there is a great chance that they will take control of the title. However, in certain areas licensing is required for higher wage tiers to be unlocked and some of the demands in terms of hours worked can be pretty steep with anywhere from six to eight thousand hours needed. Working and obtaining journeyman electrician jobs are quite difficult and take several years to accomplish but those that are willing to go the distance in terms of an apprenticeship should also be able to gain their license and further improve their chances of a greater salary and more choices in terms of work.

The National Electrical Code is very crucial to a journeyman electrician as they must know and study this to ensure that they are able to safely install electrical wiring and equipment without the risk of injury. What Can Be Expected as an Electrician?

The expectations of a journeyman electrician are much higher than that of an apprentice but both positions are quite demanding on their own. Dealing with electrical systems and a deadly amount of voltage on a daily basis is nothing to mess around with as an individual making one simple mistake could lead to them to their death if they are not careful and get caught with extremely poor luck. In terms of the journeyman position, the number one expectation or rather requirement is that an apprentice program is started and completed and that the skills that are asked of to perform future jobs are top notch. To keep it very simple, someone who is not adaptable or able to learn and retain information at a fairly decent pace will not be able to keep up with the job or deliver on the level of efficiency and safety that many employers demand and ask for.

Making mistakes on large jobs can lead to blackouts that cover blocks thus making it crucial that each and every employee from journeyman electrician to apprentice electrician perform their jobs correctly the first time around. In the case of an emergency like a natural disaster causing millions of dollars in damage, it is not uncommon for employees to be booked up with twelve to sixteen hour shifts every single day depending on the severity of the event. Essentially, while journeyman electrician jobs themselves may not be too strenuous as long as the person has the ability to perform their normal duties without much trouble or hesitation, this can change very quickly and everything can go from simple and routine to hectic and very demanding.

As all current, former or want to be journeyman electricians should know, the apprenticeship program is not a cake walk and that is exactly why people that end up making it all the way through are often very capable of performing their duties at the demand in which employers want. Those that are not cut out for the job simply drop out of the class or program and begin their search for another possible career. Overall, the expectations for this career in journeyman electricians are only for those that are dedicated and really want to do an excellent job at performing their duties with one hundred percent accuracy and time management thus making it not for everyone and a very difficult job to excel in.
